Curriculum

Carla Pontes was born in Lisboa. In the context of classical music, she has participated in several groups / musical projects, such as Coral Adágio and Projecto Axaraz.

Her first experience with lyrical singing took place, at the Academia de Música de Lagos (music academy) in 2004, under the tutelage of teacher Birgit Wegemann. In the same year, she interrupted her studies for professional reasons, resuming them in 2007 with the same teacher, in the Conservatório Joly Braga Santos (conservatoire), in Portimão, where she studied until the year 2010 and started a partnership with pianist Jeferson Mello, which resulted in auditions and recitals, as well as a refinement of her operatic repertoire. 

She has attended several workshops, courses, seminars, private classes and masterclasses (across Portugal), such as: the Curso Internacional de Música Vocal (international vocal music course) at Aveiro's University with Mário Alves, Isabel Alcobia, Claire Vangelisti and Isobel Andersen (Alexander Technique); the Compulsory Figures for Voice Control (EVTS) course with Viv Manning; Festival Voz de Mulher (a festival for female singers) with Meredith Monk, Judith Cohen (Sephardi Chant and Balkans) and with the Segue-me à Capela group (traditional chant); Singing masterclasses with Guillemette Laurens, Liliana Bizineche and Sandra Medeiros; Workshop de Canto Harmónico (harmonic chant workshop) with Pedro Soares and Voicing with Pratibha. She also worked with João Lourenço, Helena Vieira, Ângela Silva and Enza Ferrari.

She has performed successfully in auditions and recitals (across the Algarve, in Portugal) at: the foyer of Lagoa's Municipal Auditorium; Portimão's Municipal Theatre – TEMPO; Almada's Municipal Theatre; S. Sebastião's church, in Lagos; the principal churches of Aljezur and Monchique; S. José's convent, in Lagoa; Lagos' Municipal Auditorium; Festival MED (MED Classic), in Loulé; and, at Casa Manuel Teixeira Gomes, in Portimão; at the Municipal Auditorium of Lagoa (Easter Recital and "Opera Night" www.operanight.info). Carla Pontes also participated as guest soloist in the closing concert of the fourteenth edition of the Semana Coral de Lagoa, with the "Coral Ideias do Levante" and "Coro Internacional de Aljezur", directed by Francisco Brazão. Carla Pontes joined the summer internship at the International Festival of Saint-Bertrand de Cumminges, in France, with Guillemette Laurens, performing in the final concert of organ and singing in the cathedral with the very same name.

Her repertoire includes, aside from styles of the Baroque period, operas of Bellini, Donizetti, Mozart, Verdi, Puccini and Bernstein, among others.
